I was just thinking the same – I estimate a large onion, 2 carrots and some celery to be around 500g?

I sometimes add a small amount of chorizo, say six 1cm thick round slices chopped up (spicy or normal type) which I put in first and fry without any oil carefully. The fat in the chorizo creates it’s own oil then additional oil can be added or butter for the cooking of the onions and meat etc. It gives the whole meal a subtle, spicy lift in flavour. Just an alternative idea๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š.

Such a gorgeous recipe, i left out the celery and the worcester sauce as i didn’t have any. I replaced them with other veg (mushrooms, peas and sweetcorn) and a big dollop of brown sauce. I think using the flour to lock in the flavour makes a huge difference as usually my cottage pie is just okay but this was lovely. Thank you!
