I was also looking for a recipe like my mum’s! She does nutmeg not cinnamon, and does raspberry jam on the bread! She also does it in a water-bath. It’s really hard to find a similar recipe. But I’ll make this one tonight with some changes and see how I go!

I made this for family at the weekend. It went down very well. Instead of melting the butter I just buttered the bread.

I replaced more of the milk with cream as I had lots of cream and not so much milk.

I searched for a recipe to match how I thought my mum did it. A lot of recipes heat the milk and I don’t think that is necessary.
